New homes have been destroyed after a major blaze ripped through a housing development.

Fire crews were called to the building site in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, at around 7pm on Sunday.

Around 15 firefighters took three hours to tackle the blaze on Beith Road, Spateston, and left the scene at around 10pm.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were called to a fire at a two-storey timber house under construction. There were no casualties.

"Crews remained at the scene until after 10pm. An investigation will be carried out into the cause of the fire."
