A man is in hospital after he was deliberately knocked down in a hit-and-run murder bid.

The 45-year-old victim was crossing the road in the east end of Glasgow on Sunday night when a car ploughed into him and sped off.

The man was taken by ambulance to hospital from the scene on Carntynehall Road, in Carntyne, at around 8.45pm.

A black Volkswagen Golf used in the attempted murder was found by officers abandoned in Burnbrae Street, Springburn.

The injured pedestrian is being treated at Glasgow Royal Infirmary for a head and arm injury. Hospital staff describe his condition as stable.

Detective constable John McClintock, of Shettleston Police Office, said: "The incident is being treated as attempted murder and extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace whoever was driving the car at the time of the incident.

"I would appeal to any witnesses, and in particular I would appeal to two men who came to the aid of the injured man immediately after the incident, who both had left the scene before police arrival, to come forward to police as they may have information that is vital to this investigation."

Anyone with information should contact Shettleston Police Office through 101.
