A young Rangers fan hit on the head with a bottle on his way to a recent Old Firm match has led the team out as a mascot.

Kraig Mackay, 11, was heading to his first Glasgow derby at Hampden on Sunday when he was stuck by a flying bottle.

After receiving stitches in hospital, he led the side out on to the pitch for their match against St Johnstone on Wednesday.

Kraig told STV News the attack happened while he was walking to Hampden with his uncle after a group of Celtic fans emerged from a nearby pub

He said: "We were walking up Curtis Avenue and Celtic fans were there, talking and laughing, and it was all fine.

"When we got to the junction with the main road they all started singing and pointing at us. My uncle said just hold my hand and walk past."

Police horses moved in and it was at that point Kraig was struck by the bottle.

He said: "I saw liquid go everywhere and I heard a smash. I was shocked and I didn't really know what happened.

"As soon as it happened my uncle grabbed me and hugged me and put a scarf to my head to stop the bleeding."

His mother Laura Mackay has urged whoever was responsible to come forward.
