The sister of a woman who vanished from her home nine days ago has issued an emotional appeal to the public.

Janet McQueen, 58, was last seen leaving her home in Langside Road, Govanhill, around 10pm on Tuesday, October 18.

She does not have her beloved pet dog with her and did not take money or her mobile phone.

Ms McQueen, who is fairly well known in the area, is described as white, 5ft, of slim build with short black hair.

She was wearing glasses, a navy blue anorak and dark coloured trousers.

Concerns are growing for her well-being among friends, family and police and Ms McQueen's sister spoke from Cathcart Police Office in Glasgow on Thursday.

Fiona Kilcoyne said the family are "worried sick" as they regularly speak to Ms McQueen on phone and it is not like her to not be in touch.

She also said her sister loves her dog and it is "concerning" she left it at home, along with her mobile phone and purse.

Ms Kilcoyne then issued a direct appeal to her sister to get in touch and urged the public to get in touch with any information.

Chief inspector Graham McInarlin said that on the day of her disappearance a bus driver in Baillieston called the police when he noticed how distressed Ms McQueen was on the bus.

She was taken home to a family where the police left he before she left later and disappeared.
