A 58-year-old man has died after falling on to the road and being hit by a car in South Lanarkshire.

Police were called to the scene in Craigbank Road, Larkhall, at around 8.40pm on Saturday.

Officers say CCTV footage shows the man stumbling and falling onto the road, where he was struck by a blue Ford Fiesta.

He is described as white, of medium build and wearing blue jogging bottoms, a grey T-shirt and blue slippers.

The 72-year-old female driver of the Ford Fiesta was not injured.

Sergeant Stewart Dyer, of Lanarkshire Divisional Road Policing Department, said: "From CCTV, it would appear that the man has stumbled and then fallen on to the road near to the 101 convenience store where he was then struck by a blue Ford Fiesta.

"At this time, we don't know whether he has taken unwell prior to falling, however, a post-mortem will take place in due course to establish the cause of his death.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who was in Craigbank Road at the time of the incident and who may have seen either the deceased or the blue Ford Fiesta."

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Lanarkshire Divisional Road Policing Department on 101.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
