Three men have appeared in court charged with attempting to murder police officers by mowing them down in a car in Glasgow.

David McLean, Dayne McCue and Ryan Gilmour have been charged with several offences relating to an incident in Knightswood on October 23.

They are accused of attempting to kill constables Deborah Lawson and Robert Fitzsimmons by driving towards them and striking them with a vehicle in Banner Drive.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, they appeared on petition alleging they reversed a car while the police officers were trapped and dragged them backwards, knocking them to the ground.

McLean, 30, 28-year-old McCue and Gilmour, 24, were accused of driving towards Ms Lawson when she was lying on the ground in front of the vehicle, forcing Mr Fitzsimmons to pull her out of the way.

The three men are accused of carrying out the attack to the severe injury or endangerment of life of the police officers.

They are also alleged to have wilfully set a Nissan Qashqai on fire and attempted to pervert the course of justice.

McLean, McCue and Gilmour were charged with committing a breach of the peace by conducting themselves in a disorderly manner in Banner Drive by arming themselves with knives and weapons, shouting and swearing and pursuing three other men.

They appeared in court in private accused of repeatedly banging on a door and threatening to force entry, as well as squirting shower gel through a letter box.

All three men did not enter a plea of declaration and their case was continued for further examination.

They were remanded in custody ahead of a further court appearance.
