Two children were taken to hospital for suspected smoke inhalation after fires were set at flats in the south of Glasgow.

The children, aged two and three, were taken the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital following suspicious fires in the communal close areas of two properties in Linnhead Drive, Priesthill, at around 1.10am on Sunday.

They were checked over for smoke inhalation and released shortly afterwards.

Police are now treating the fires as suspicious.

Detective Sergeant Phil Peacock said: "These reckless acts could have had far more serious consequences.

"To senselessly jeopardise the safety of residents, including children, will not be tolerated by police or the community.

"We have been speaking with local residents and assessing opportunities for CCTV.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact the Criminal Investigation Department based at Govan.

"You may have heard a disturbance or seen someone running off in the early hours of Sunday morning from Linnhead Drive. No matter how small you think the information you have may be, as part of our broader investigation it could make all the difference.

"Anyone with information that can assist enquiries is asked to contact detectives at Govan via 101. Alternatively calls can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained."
