A man has died after becoming trapped while working underneath a car in a Renfrewshire village.

It is understood the man, who has not been named, was killed when the vehicle rolled and trapped him at a house in Crosslee, near Houston.

Emergency services were called to the incident on Whirlie Road shortly after 1pm on Wednesday.

Firefighters were able to free the man from under the car, but he was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman added: "The SFRS was alerted at 1.14pm on Wednesday, 2 November to reports of an incident on Whirlie Road in Crosslee, Renfrewshire.

"Two appliances from Johnstone were immediately mobilised.

"Firefighters freed a male casualty from beneath a car but he was thereafter sadly pronounced dead.

"The SFRS ensured the area was safe before leaving the scene at 2.35pm."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeman added: "A local ambulance crew, specialist operations response team and a trauma team attended the incident.

"Despite their best efforts the patient was pronounced deceased at the scene."

A police spokesman said the incident is not thought to be suspicious.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
