Homes evacuated over gas leak after workman damages pipe

A number of homes were evacuated after a gas leak was sparked by a workman.
Residents in a North Lanarkshire street were forced to leave their homes on Thursday morning after a workman damaged a pipe.
Police and emergency services as well as engineers from SGN attended Lewis Avenue, in Cambusnethan, and the surrounding streets were sealed off until the area was declared safe.
A statement from Police Scotland said: "At around 11.10am on Thursday, November 3, police and emergency services responded to a report of a suspected gas leak on Lewis Avenue, Cambusnethan.
"A number of homes have been evacuated as a precaution and the roads were closed from Lewis Avenue to Ronnay Street. Authorities attended to resolve."
