Armed robbers threatened staff with a gun and a bladed weapon during a raid at a Scotmid in Bishopbriggs.

The masked men entered the shop on Auchinairn Road in the East Dunbartonshire town at about 8.40pm on Thursday and demanded money.

The gun was not discharged and no one was injured but the three members of staff were left extremely shaken. There were also four customers in the shop at the time of the robbery.

The first suspect is described as between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in and of medium build.

His face was covered by a black balaclava and he was wearing a black waterproof jacket, a grey hooded top, with the hood up, blue jeans and white trainers. He spoke with an English accent and was carrying the firearm.

The second suspect is described as between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in and of medium build.

His face was also covered by a black balaclava and he was wearing a blue jacket, dark coloured trousers and trainers. He spoke with a local accent and was carrying the bladed weapon.

They made off with a three-figure sum of cash in a small white van and drove towards Colston Road.

Detective sergeant Raymond Hunter, of the community investigation unit based at Govan police office, said: "Enquiries are ongoing in the local area today and officers are also gathering and studying CCTV footage in an effort to gain more detail on the two men involved and the white van they made off in.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have seen these two men in the area around the time of the robbery to come forward to police.
