Police are investigating after a woman's body was found at a flat in Inverclyde.

Officers were called to the property on Forsyth Street, Greenock, shortly after 11am on Friday after being alerted by a member of the public.

The woman, whose death is being treated as "unexplained", is still to be formally identified.

A police spokesman said: "Around 11.05am on Friday, November 4, police were called to a flat in Forsyth Street, Greenock, where the body of a yet to be identified woman was discovered.

"A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the exact cause of death which is being treated as unexplained at this time.

"A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
