A lorry carrying recycling has overturned spilling its load at a South Ayrshire roundabout.

The incident happened at around 4pm on Monday when the Re-Gen lorry toppled at the Whittlets Roundabout in Ayr shedding piles of waste material bound for recycling.

The A77 was closed at the Sandyford junction for more than five hours as teams worked to recover the vehicle and clean up the spillage.

Motorists faced lengthy tailbacks at rush hour, with some reporting hours of delays.

The vehicle is owned by Re-Gen, a waste management firm who recover recyclable materials to be sent to energy plants.
