A man and woman have been arrested in connection with a knife attack on a father and son in their own home.

Dennis McCowan, 71, and his son Mark, 45, were both stabbed after two people burst into the family home in Glasgow's Baillieston in broad daylight on Friday.

They were left seriously injured in the incident, which happened at their house on Loancroft Place at around midday, and were taken to hospital, where they remain.

Police confirmed on Sunday that a man, aged 53, and a 40-year-old woman have been held in connection with attempted murder.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "A 53-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman have been arrested and are presently detained in police custody following the alleged attempted murder of two men in Baillieston, Glasgow, on Friday.

"Around 12pm on Friday, two men aged 71 and 45 years, sustained serious injuries following a disturbance in a house in Loanfoot Place.

"Both were taken by ambulance to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where they remain for treatment.

"Hospital staff describe their condition as serious but stable. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."
