A woman has appeared in court charged with murdering her sister in a seaside town.

Sharon Greenop's body was discovered after it may have lain for months in her home in Troon, South Ayrshire.

The 46-year-old was found dead by officers on Aldersyde Avenue on Thursday, November 10.

On Monday, her sister Lynette Greenop appeared in private at Ayr Sheriff Court, accused of her murder.

The 38-year-old made no plea or declaration during the course of the hearing and was remanded in custody pending a further court appearance.

Sharon Greenop's 19-year-old daughter Shayla, who was also arrested in connection with the death, has been released.

A Crown Office spokesman said: "A 19-year-old woman was also reported and has been liberated pending further enquiries and did not appear in court."
