Firefighters have tackled a blaze at a primary school in Glasgow.

The emergency services were called to Gowanbank Primary School on Overtown Avenue at about 6.20pm on Wednesday.

Firefighters wearing breathing gear entered the building and had brought the fire under control by 7pm.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted to reports of a fire alarm at Gowanbank Primary at 6.22pm on Wednesday.

"When firefighters arrived it was found a fire had taken hold and four fire engines were deployed.

"Firefighters wearing protective breathing apparatus entered the school and the fire was under control at 7pm."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said a joint investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
