A councillor has appeared in court charged with conspiracy and sending indecent messages.

North Lanarkshire councillor David Fagan, 52, appeared at court on Wednesday to face two charges after he was arrested in September.

The politician, who represents Airdrie South, was charged with conspiracy and another accusation under the Communications Act.

It is alleged he sent "by means of public electronic communications network a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character".

Fagan made no plea or declaration during the brief hearing at Airdrie Sheriff Court and was granted bail.

He has been suspended by Scottish Labour as well as the party group at North Lanarkshire Council.
