A private school was put on alert after a teacher thought they heard an airgun fired outside.

Pupils at Hutchesons' Grammar School in the south side of Glasgow were kept in their classrooms on Friday morning over the incident.

Police were called to the scene on Beaton Road, Pollokshields, and carried out a search of the school in a bid to establish what happened.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed no weapon was discovered and the area was deemed safe by officers shortly after their arrival.

Officers have now left the scene and school is continuing as normal.

A police spokeswoman said: "No crime was established and staff were given advice by officers around 11.50pm before the incident was stood down."
