An Ayrshire family have vowed to put their greedy pet on a crash diet after the cunning canine ate nearly all of their Christmas turkey.

Bubba, a Lhasa Apso/Chihuahua cross, was left 'bloated and lethargic' after eating her way through an entire turkey crown on Christmas eve.

Owner Lynsey Barret, from Prestwick, said the turkey had been left to rest on a trolley in the kitchen covered in tinfoil and dishtowels in preparation for Christmas Day.

"She was going back and forward to the kitchen," Lynsey explained.

"Normally if she was away for a while you'd go an check and see what she was up to.

"But she was being really fly, because she was going back and forward.

"My mum went through to the kitchen and all we heard was a big scream."

Thankfully for the Barrets, they had a spare turkey joint in the freezer which they managed to feed the family with.

The family say their pet, who was barely able to move after her turkey feast, will be getting put on a diet in the new year.
