A woman remains in hospital nine days after her car plunged through a roundabout and landed on its roof on a footpath below.

The 36-year-old woman was driving her Fiat Punto on the A75 Dumfries bypass when it crashed into the Bloomfield roundabout before flipping and landing around 15ft below.

Police and emergency services went to the scene at around 5pm on Tuesday, December 27, and found the woman injured and trapped in her car.

Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to free her before she was taken to hospital for treatment, where she remains in a serious condition.

Officers have now issued a fresh appeal for witnesses following the crash and urged anyone with any information to come forward.

Constable Stuart Delaney, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: "We are keen to speak to the driver of a black coloured 4x4 type vehicle that was either on the roundabout having entered it from the A701, Locharbriggs side, or waiting at the junction.

"Additionally we are keen to speak to a driver who may have swerved into the bus stop on Glasgow Street, Dumfries shortly before to avoid a collision with the white Punto.

"Callers can contact us through 101."
