A pensioner has been left with serious injuries after being knocked down by a Range Rover.

The 78-year-old woman was struck by the black vehicle while crossing the road in the east end of Glasgow.

Police said the pensioner is in a serious but stable condition after the collision involving the Range Rover Evoke on Gartocher Road in Sandyhills.

She is receiving treatment in Glasgow Royal Infirmary after the incident at around 2pm on Thursday.

Sergeant Nicola Taylor said: "The lady had just stepped into the road when she was struck by the Range Rover.

"Although a number of people came to her assistance and looked after her until an ambulance arrived, we still need to speak to anyone who saw the crash take place."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101.
