A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a man suffered serious chest injuries in an alleged stabbing.

A 65-year-old man was taken to hospital after an incident on Maryhill Road in Glasgow at 3.50am on Thursday.

Mark McAllister, 33, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court over the alleged attack on Friday.

He made no plea or declaration to charges of attempted murder and assault to severe injury.

The case was was committed for further examination and McAllister was remanded in custody pending his next court hearing.

The 65-year-old man was treated at Glasgow Royal Infirmary following the incident.
