A man is fighting for his life after being attacked in a flat in Renfrewshire.

The 48-year-old was found seriously injured at the property in Paisley on Monday.

Police said the victim is in a critical condition in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after he suffered a head injury in the attempted murder.

Officers are appealing for witnesses after the man was discovered in Auchentorlie Quadrant at around 7.50am.

Detective inspector Tom Carty said: "We are currently treating this incident as attempted murder as the injuries sustained are very serious and consistent of an assault having taken place.

"Our enquiries so far have revealed that there was some sort of disturbance within the flat either on Sunday or during the night into Monday morning, therefore I am keen to speak to anyone who has heard a disturbance or seen people coming or going in Auchentorlie Quadrant between 7.30am on Sunday, January 8, to 8am on Monday, January 9, to contact police immediately."
