A car has been set alight in a deliberate fire attack in a city street.

Police and fire crews were called to the blaze in the south side of Glasgow in the early hours of Tuesday.

They found a Vauxhall Corsa on fire outside a shop on Nithsdale Street at around 4.10am before bringing the flames under control.

An investigation was launched and police believe the fire was wilful.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "After a joint investigation by police and Fire Scotland the fire is being treated as wilful.

"Enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were alerted to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision outside a commercial premises on Nithsdale Street, Glasgow at 4.08am on Tuesday.

"Two appliances from Polmadie fire station attended and upon arrival discovered the vehicle on fire.

"They quickly brought the incident under control before departing the scene at 4.41am after using specialist thermal imaging cameras to ensure the area was safe."
