Residents were evacuated after a late-night blaze caused a power cut.

Fire crews were called to a residential street in Lochmaben, in Dumfries and Galloway, on Wednesday night.

Emergency services closed off Castle Street in the village shortly after 11pm as they tackled a blaze in a property and residents were evacuated from their homes.

Scottish Power engineers were also called in to restore power in the area after a number of homes were left without electricity.

A statement from Police Scotland said on Wednesday night: "The fire service have now extinguished the fire in Castle Street, Lochmaben and no persons are reported to have been injured.

"Residents are free to return to their property, however, there may be some disruption to electrical supplies over the coming hours in that area.

"The cause of the fire is still being investigated and will resume during daylight hours."
