Riot police and sniffer dogs were called out after a house was targeted near a secondary school.

The incident happened at around 10.20am on Friday in Hillpark in the south side  of Glasgow.

The Police Scotland helicopter was also called out to the scene.

Officers initially attended reports of a break-in to a house on Nether Auldhouse Road but it appears the property was vandalised and bricks thrown at a window.

When police arrived youths fled on foot towards the school and police gave chase before the incident was resolved. Police say they are following a definite line of inquiry.

It is understood police a number of police vehicles were seen in the area around the Hillpark Secondary School.

A spokeswoman for Glasgow City Council said the incident happened outwith the school and it had no affect on pupils or staff.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 10.20am on Friday, police responded to reports of a housebreaking on Nether Auldhouse Road.

"Upon attendance, the suspects made off in the direction of a school on nearby Cairngorm Road. Officers chased on foot and the incident was quickly resolved."

It is understood the school sent a text message out to parents saying police were on school premises due to a non-violent incident in the community and that staff and pupils were safe.
