A youth football coach has appeared in court charged with child sex offences.

John Queen appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court last week to face six charges.

The 62-year-old, of Paisley, faced four charges of lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour, and two charges of indecent assault.

It is understood the charges relate to his time coaching a Renfrewshire boys football club.

He was arrested by officers from Police Scotland's child abuse unit, who revealed on Friday they are probing 130 reports of child abuse within the sport in Scotland.

He appeared in private last Wednesday January 11 before Sheriff Tom McCartney.

He made no plea or declaration and was released on bail.
