Two people have been taken to hospital after a fire tore through a tenement block in Glasgow.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at around 11.50am on Sunday in Glenapp Road, Pollokshields.

Police and paramedics also attended and two people were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

A number of other residents were checked over at the scene.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received multiple calls at around 11.50am of reports of a fire in Glenapp Road.

"We had four appliances attending. Fire crews were sent in to tackle the fire with one main jet, one hose-reel jet and four breathing apparatus sets."

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland added: "Two people have been taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for smoke inhalation. Several other people have been checked over by paramedics."

Emergency services remain in attendance at Glenapp Road.
