Three teenagers were taken to hospital after a car left the road and ended up in a field in Ayrshire.

Emergency services were called to the crash at around 2.50am on Sunday after a black Seat Ibiza left the A713 Ayr to Patna road.

The 17-year-old female driver of the car and a 19-year-old male passenger were both taken to Ayr Hospital for treatment.

The man was subsequently transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where his condition is described as serious but stable.

The 17-year-old driver was later discharged from hospital.

A 14-year-old girl, who was also a passenger, was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Iain Pittams said: "I would appeal to anyone who was on the A713 in the early hours of Sunday morning and may have witnessed the crash to get in touch.

"Similarly if anyone saw a black Seat Ibiza on the road around the time of the incident, please come forward.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Irvine via 101."
