The grieving family of tragic homeless man Matthew Bloomer have appealed for donations to help give him a "dignified send-off".

Matthew's brother Paolo Barnett-Bloomer, who stays in Manchester, launched the appeal on fundraising site GoFundMe, hoping to bring his body back to Aberdeen for a family funeral.

Paolo, 30, said: "Glasgow council policy states that my brother will receive an undignified state funeral that no family can attend - if we can't find the funding to bring him home to Aberdeen and give him a decent send off."

Rough sleeper Matthew, 28, was found dead in Glasgow city centre on Tuesday morning after blizzard conditions hit overnight.

Paolo and his family in Aberdeen were unaware at the scale of the problems faced by Matthew in Glasgow and were left heartbroken and angry when they heard of his death.

The GoFundMe appeal, which was launched this morning, raised more than £250 in its first hour.

The page states: "The family are asking for whatever you can donate to enable Matthew to receive a dignified send off."
