A knifeman launched a "brutal and ruthless" attack on two men near a takeaway in Glasgow.

The victims were in the doorway of the Spice Boys takeaway on Swinton Road, Baillieston, when they became aware of another man standing nearby them.

The man began to shout at them, before running towards the victims with a large knife.

The suspect attacked the men before getting into a white car, possibly a Seat Leon, and driving off east along Rhindmuir Road in the early hours of Tuesday.

A 50-year-old man suffered a serious shoulder injury and was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment. He has since been released.

The second man, 51, was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The suspect is described as white Scottish, 5ft 7in to 5ft 9in, of medium build and was wearing dark clothing and carrying a baseball cap.

Detective constable Juan Carlos Arias De Leon said: "This was a brutal and ruthless attack and officers are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"I would appeal to anyone who was on Swinton Road just after midnight on Tuesday and may have witnessed a disturbance to please get in touch.

"I would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen a white coloured car in the area around the time of the incident, or a man matching the above description.

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Shettleston CID via 101.
