A teenager has died after losing control of her car and colliding with another vehicle.

Asten Jones, of Dunoon, Argyll, died in hospital following the crash on the A815 in Kilmun at around 1.20pm on Sunday.

The 18-year-old's Vauxhall Corsa collided with a Vauxhall Vectra driven by a 47-year-old man, who was not injured.

Asten was flown to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where she died shortly before midnight on Sunday.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 1.20pm on Sunday, an 18-year-old woman was driving a Vauxhall Corsa on the A815 at Kilmun, when it appears that the vehicle lost control and collided with a Vauxhall Vectra being driven by a 47-year-old man.

"Emergency services attended and the 18-year-old woman was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where she later died."

Asten's friends have launched an online fundraiser which has attracted nearly 300 donations totalling more than £5000.
