A blaze in a sauna has spread through a leisure complex at a caravan park in North Ayrshire.

Viewfield Manor in Kilwinning, has been forced to close following the fire, which also damaged a swimming pool and gym.

The blaze, which happened shortly before 11am on Tuesday, was tackled by fire crews for more than two hours.

Now the leisure park's facilities have been closed while safety testing and repair work is carried out.

The bar, restaurant and shop are expected to reopen on Friday but the swimming pool will remain shut.

In an update, Viewfield Manor said: "There was a fire in the complex at Viewfield Manor. The emergency services attended and no one was hurt.

"The damage is limited to the leisure facilities and the complex is closed whilst the necessary works and safety tests are carried out.

"The leisure facilities including swimming pool will remain closed, however we hope to reopen the bar, restaurant and shop on Friday evening. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We were called just before 11am and our last appliance left at about 1.10pm.

"It came in as a report of a fire within a sauna."
