A father from South Lanarkshire has been seriously injured in the Manchester terror attack.

Piotr Chylewska is believed to have taken one of his children to the Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena on Monday night when it was targeted by a suicide bomber.

So far 22 people have died from the atrocity and another 75 remain in hospital.

It is not yet known if the father-of-two, who moved to Scotland from Poland more than a decade ago, is one of the 23 in critical care.

Mr Chylewska is a parishioner at St Bride's Roman Catholic Church, in Cambuslang, and the news was confirmed on social media that he was one of the injured.

The church's Facebook page stated: "One of our parishioners, Piotr Chylewska, has been badly in injured in the Manchester bombing, please keep him in your prayers for a speedy and full recovery."

Prayers were also called for at Mass, for the Solemnity of the Ascension, on Thursday.

Father Paul Morton said: "In our mass today we especially remember all those who lost their lives in Manchester, and we remember also those who were injured as well.

"I ask especially for your prayers today for one of our parishioners who was caught up in that violence himself and has been seriously injured."

Eilidh MacLeod, from Barra, has been confirmed as among the 22 people killed on Monday night.

Her friend, 15-year-old Laura MacIntyre, remains seriously ill in hospital.

The parents of Eilidh, who was 14, issued a statement on Thursday morning paying tribute to their daughter, who they described as "vivacious and full of fun".
