A teenage alopecia sufferer who had her wig ripped off by bullies in a shocking viral video has been "overwhelmed" by the support she has received.

Holly Mills, who has suffered hair loss since she was seven, was attacked by a group of girls as she walked through a public park near her home in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire.

The 13-year-old's cousin Becca Smith shared the video on her Facebook page with the aim of raising awareness of the bullying she has suffered.

The video has now been viewed more than 400,000 times and had nearly 2000 comments, with the vast majority sending the teenager good will and support.

Becca also launched a GoFundMe page with the intention of raising money to replace the expensive hair piece that was torn to shreds during the attack.

The fundraising site, which had an initial target of £500, has now raised more than £2000 for Holly as messages of support continue to flood in.

Becca said she started the fundraising page after seeing how distraught her young cousin was with losing her expensive wig.

She said: "I started the GoFundMe page because last year Holly's mum had saved so hard to be able to afford the wig.

"The response to it has been amazing and everyone has been so nice. it's really heartwarming and it has proved to Holly that there are more nice people out here than bad.

"We can't thank people enough, I'm lost for words at the kindness."

In the minute-long video, Holly is seen being dragged to the ground by another girl who proceeds to forcefully rip the hair off of her head.

Rather than submit to the bullies, Holly fought back and overpowered her attacker.

The teenager has received widespread praise for the courageous manner in which she stood her ground against the gang who made her school life hell.

Becca says the "shy and kindhearted" teenager struggles to accept praise and lacks any confidence after the ordeal.

The 18-year-old, who is also from Blantyre, says Holly is overwhelmed by the response.

She said: "Holly is lost for words at all the support she is getting and doesn't know what to say to it all.

"When people call her beautiful without her wig on she feels people are only saying that because they feel sorry for her.

"I just want to hold her and never let her go, It is heartbreaking to think that someone so young feels like that. We are all going on a day out on Saturday to help make her feel a bit better."

The family has also received support from hair extension companies and salons who have offered to provide Holly with hair and a pamper session.
