A murderer who hid the body of a man in a wardrobe before concealing it under clothing and bags has been sentenced to at least 13 years in jail.

Imrich Joni, 21, was given a life sentence after stabbing and strangling Gordon Bolam, 68, to death at the elderly man's property in Pollokshields, Glasgow.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Joni hid Mr Bolam's body in a wardrobe before concealing it under clothing and bags.

In a bid to escape justice, he then washed upholstery, floors and other surfaces in an attempt to destroy DNA evidence. He also got rid of his trainers and the clothing he was wearing on the day of the murder as well as the knife he used to kill Mr Bolam.

The Slovakian was sentenced to a minimum of 13 years in prison for the incident, which happened between June 29 and July 14 last year.

Police discovered Mr Bolam's body in his property in the city's Kenmure Street and Joni was arrested following an investigation.

Following the sentencing hearing, Nicky Patrick, procurator fiscal for homicide and major crime, said: "This was a prosecution that was made possible after outstanding work in the field of forensic science.

"Only after a painstaking, thorough and demanding effort in this field was Joni identified as being responsible for this crime.

"Justice has been served with him being brought to account for his crime and he now faces a very substantial prison sentence."
