A man has been arrested after a 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped at a city centre Travelodge.

The incident happened at the hotel on Glasgow's Queen Street at 5.50am on Tuesday.

Several officers attended the Travelodge in the early hours of Tuesday and remained at the scene for most of the day.

The 23-year-old suspect is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court later on Wednesday.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "At 5.50am on Tuesday, police received a report of a 21-year-old woman having been subjected to a serious sexual assault within the Travelodge.

"A 23-year-old man was arrested and is currently detained in police custody in connection with an alleged serious assault."
