A missing psychiatric patient described as potentially "dangerous" could be travelling to Glasgow.

CCTV has been released showing Abdelnabi Alainani's last known movements after he went missing from Midpark Hospital in Dumfries on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old was armed with a knife but police later found it close to the hospital.

Police are searching for Mr Alainani and have urged people to call 101 if they see him.

Officers have not ruled out that he could still be armed and said he could be heading to Glasgow.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We initially believed he was in possession of a knife, however, during our searches we recovered the knife near to the Midpark unit.

"Further inquiries suggest he may try to make his way to Glasgow. There have been no confirmed sightings of him since Tuesday afternoon.

"We will continue our patrols (and) would ask the public to go about their normal routine."

A police helicopter was involved in the search for Mr Alainani in the Midpark, Maidenbower, Calside and Georgetown areas of Dumfries on Tuesday.

Students at Dumfries and Galloway College were kept inside, while parents of pupils at primary schools were contacted and asked to collect their children.
