A 49-year-old man has appeared in court charged with possessing explosives and a shotgun.

Gary Trussler was arrested after police were called to Kirkton Avenue in High Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, on Wednesday.

He appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court charged with possessing a shotgun without a certificate. He also faces two counts of making or possessing an explosive under "suspicious circumstances".

Mr Trussler is further accused of having air weapons without the necessary certificates.

He made no plea or declaration during the private hearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court and was committed for further examination.

The accused was remanded in custody and is expected to appear again on June 30.
