The death of a 19-year-old man on a railway line is being treated as "unexplained" by police, who have appealed for the public's help.

British Transport Police were called to Kilpatrick station in West Dunbartonshire shortly before 8am on Sunday after a body had been discovered on the line to Bowling.

The man, who is from the Clydebank area, was pronounced dead later in hospital.

Officers said his death was being treated as "unexplained" and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

They are keen to establish his movements after he left a nearby property about 3am. His family have been informed and a post mortem is due to take place this week.

Detective inspector Arlene Wilson said: "Understandably, this has been terrible shock for this man's family and friends and we have specially trained officers supporting them at this difficult time.

"Our inquiries are in the early stages and we will continue to keep an open mind until we have established all of the facts.

"We have confirmed that the man left a nearby property shortly after 3am and was discovered near the railway line just before 8am. A post-mortem examination will be undertaken to establish the cause of death.

"I would be very keen to speak with anyone who was in the Kilpatrick area during the early hours of Sunday morning who can help us establish what happened.

"Your information could prove vital in getting this family the answers they desperately seek."

Anyone with information has been asked to call 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 139 of June 25, 2017 or text British Transport Police on 61016.
