Three balaclava-clad raiders forced their way into a home and threatened a family with a gun.

Three more masked men waited outside the house in Robroyston, Glasgow, as it was raided shortly before midnight on Tuesday.

The occupants of the house - a 26-year-old man and two women aged between 19 and 47 - were not injured.

No shots were fired but a Volkswagen Polo parked outside the Pinwherry Drive home had its rear window smashed.

The men left the scene in two cars, believed to be Audis, and have not been traced.

The incident is believed to be related to an ongoing gangland feud between rival families in Glasgow.

Detective inspector Greig Wilkie said: "Thankfully no one was injured during this raid on the house and that the occupants were able to run from the house as the men ransacked their home. However, it was a very frightening and distressing experience to all those involved.

"A motive as to why the men went to that particular house and turned it upside down is still to be established. But whatever the reason, we are determined to find out who these people are.

"Officers are carrying out door to door enquiries as well as checking CCTV from the area in an effort to identify those responsible.

"The Audi cars, which haven't been recovered at this time, may have been in the area prior to the incident and I have no doubt people would have, with regard to the waiting car, seen or heard it outside the house."

Enquiries are under way at the home, which remained cordoned off on Wednesday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101.
