A man was mowed down by a gang in a Mercedes before being stabbed in an attempted murder bid.

The 23-year-old was deliberately run over by an old-style Mercedes on Ardencraig Drive, in Castlemilk, Glasgow, about 4.25pm on Wednesday.

He ran to Ardencraig Quadrant but was pursued and stabbed by the front-seat passenger of the car.

At least three men were in the car, which then sped off along Ardencraig Drive.

The injured man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Inspector Stevie Watson said: "Ardencraig Drive and Quadrant are both residential and there were a number of people, including children, in the area at the time of the attack.

"While we believe that the injured man was the intended target, there were others in the immediate area that could have been injured or worse due to the actions of these men.

"We have already spoken to a number of witnesses, some of whom came to the aid of the man, however, we know from CCTV that there were others in the area who will have witnessed the attack as well.

"These include other cars and dog walkers."

The passenger who stabbed the man is described as white, between 20 and 30 years old and has dark hair.

He was wearing a dark T-shirt and trousers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
