Police are hunting two knife-wielding robbers who raided the home of a disabled man.

John Niven, who needs an oxygen mask to breath due to a lung condition, was in his home in Rathkin Avenue, Kilmarnock with two friends and his disabled daughter when the men forced their way in at around 10.40pm on Thursday.

The men produced knives and demanded Mr Niven to hand over all his money.

They then left the house with a three figure sum of cash including money saved for daughter Janette who has Rett Syndrome and is mentally and physically disabled.

It is believed they made off in a green coloured Ford Focus car which was driven by a third man.

The four occupants of the house were uninjured but left extremely distressed by the robbery.

Officers investigating the incident have appealed for information in the hope of catching the men and have released descriptions of those involved.

The first suspect is described as white, around 5ft 9ins in height with a stocky build and between 25-35 years old.

He had brown shaven hair and was wearing a dark blue jacket and jogging trousers.

The second suspect, also described as white and aged between 25-35, was around 5ft 7ins in height with a slim build.

At the time of the robbery he was wearing a dark green coloured jacket and green baseball cap.

Detective Constable Scott Bradley at Kilmarnock CID said: "This was a very traumatic ordeal for the occupants and their friends who were in the house and it is vital that we trace the persons responsible.

"Anyone who saw a green coloured Ford Focus car in the area at the time or who recognises the description of the persons responsible is asked to contact Kilmarnock CID quoting incident number 0903 of 30 June 2017."
