Two men accused of attempting to murder police officers by driving into them have walked free from court.

The charges against David McLean, 31, and Ryan Gilmour, 25, were found not proven at the High Court in Edinburgh on Tuesday.

The pair had been charged with trying to kill Deborah Lawson and Robert Fitzsimmons with a Nissan Qashqai on Banner Drive in Glasgow.

Both officers suffered serious injuries and needed hospital treatment following the incident in October 2016.

McLean and Gilmour were arrested after their DNA was found on the Qashqai, which had been set on fire.

But on Tuesday, jurors took just over an hour to return a not proven verdict.

Lord Summers told the two men, who come from Glasgow: "You are acquitted of the charges."
