Armed police will be deployed at a music festival in Glasgow this weekend.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend TRNSMT, which is being headlined by Radiohead, Kasabian and Biffy Clyro.

There is no specific threat to the festival but armed and plain-clothed officers will be on duty at Glasgow Green all weekend, Police Scotland said.

Firearms officers were deployed at last month's Scottish Cup final and at a Robbie Williams concert following terror attacks in London and Manchester.

Superintendent Stewart Carle said: "There will be an increased security presence at the event and in the city centre.

"Firearms officers will be present near the venue, however it is important to stress there is no specific intelligence to suggest there is a threat to the festival.

"This deployment is standard in crowded places given the current security level."

He added: "Our advice remains the same - be alert but not alarmed and enjoy the festival.

"We will have plain-clothed police officers on duty in and around Glasgow Green to monitor crowd behaviour and look for any suspicious or criminal behaviour."

People attending TRNSMT are expected to be searched as they enter the festival and large bags are banned.
