Five men are to stand trial charged with murdering a man outside a birthday party.

The group are said to have attacked Gary Weir in Old Shettleston Road in Glasgow last August.

It is claimed the 24-year-old was repeatedly punched, kicked and struck with a knife or similar item.

Mr Weir died in hospital after the alleged attack outside Shettleston Juniors football ground and social club.

Michael Gentles, 21, of Baillieston; John Kelly, 22, of Calton; Adam Williams, 20, of Shettleston; Liam Stead, 20, of Easterhouse, and John Graham, 21, of Dennistoun, all Glasgow, were all charged with murder on Wednesday.

Lawyers for the five entered not guilty pleas during a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

They also denied three separate accusations of attempted murder from the same date.

Judge Lord Burns set a trial due to begin on November 7 in Edinburgh and continued bail for all five in the meantime.
