A man who died after being found stabbed on a road in North Lanarkshire has been named.

Kevin Gallacher, 38, from Wishaw, was discovered on Glencairn Avenue in Craigneuk at around 11.35pm on Tuesday.

Police attended and he was taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment but died a short time later.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the exact cause of Mr Gallacher's death. Police are treating it as suspicious.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area and are gathering CCTV footage for review.

It is understood that investigators are following a positive line of enquiry.

Detective chief inspector Keith Hardie from the major investigations team said: "We are in the process of establishing the exact circumstances of what has happened and the motive behind it.

"A man has died following an attack and I'm sure there are people in the local area who may have heard or seen something connected to this crime.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have any information to pass it on to officers. No matter how insignificant it may seem, please do pass it on and let officers judge its relevance."
