A woman has appeared in court accused of neglecting and murdering her baby daughter.

Two-year-old Lauren Wade died in 2015 after allegedly not being fed or cared for properly for eight months and ingesting drugs.

Prosecutors say 36-year-old Margaret Wade and partner Marie Sweeney, 35, wilfully ill-treated and assaulted the child in a filthy and insect infested house between July 2014 and March 2015.

It is claimed both women allowed the house to become dirty with bags of rubbish overflowing with rotting waste and dirty nappies.

They are charged with causing the two-year-old to take diazepam by means unknown to the prosecutor.

The couple, from Townhead in Glasgow, are also charged with "failing to seek to provide medical air and care" for Lauren and causing her unnecessary suffering and murdering her.

Papers from the court claim they failed to provide her with adequate nourishment and fluids and failed to bathe her.

They are also accused of neglecting two other children aged ten and seven.

Wade and Sweeney appeared in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.

They made no plea and were both granted bail and are expected to appear at the High Court at a later date.
