A Scots woman has been murdered after thieves smothered her with a pillow before raiding her house.

Janice Farman, 47, from Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, was killed in the incident in Mauritius on Thursday.

Officers believe Ms Farman was smothered with a pillow before thieves stole her car, a television and jewellery.

Her autistic son, who is understood to be ten, was in the house at the time.

A man has been arrested, local media said.

Speaking to TéléPlus, Selon Jean-Baptiste, Janice's ex husband, said: "I spoke to her on the phone two days ago and she said she was okay but that she wanted to leave Mauritius and go home to Scotland. She was dealing with paperwork to do so.

"She had been talking about going home for a year, but now she was ready to go.

"Two weeks ago, she called me to say she had been robbed."

Ms Farman, who had lived in Mauritius since 2004, was a managing director with PECS Data Services.

It is understood she had been working with the company for about three years.

The firm described her as a "wonderful lady".

A company statement said: "Last night our managing director in Mauritius, Janice Farman, was brutally murdered in her own home.

"In view of these tragic events, we have decided to close our Mauritius office so we can make sure all our team have access to counsellors and as a mark of respect to a wonderful lady.

"Our thoughts are with Janice's family, friends and colleagues."

Ms Farman previously worked as a call centre manager at AXA Assistance in Mauritius.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are assisting the family of a British woman following her death in Mauritius and are in contact with the local authorities."
