A man has been slashed across the face with a knife during a fight at a flat.

The attack happened on Highholm Street in Port Glasgow, Inverclyde, shortly before 5pm on Thursday.

The 40-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police were called to a disturbance at a flat in Highholm Street in Port Glasgow.

"Emergency services attended and a 40-year-old man was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital where he was released after treatment.

"Enquires are continuing."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We dispatched one ambulance to the scene."
