A ferocious fire has ripped through a former Chinese restaurant.

Around 20 firefighters were called to tackle the flames at the derelict building on Mearns Road in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire.

Crews battled the blaze for eight hours before leaving the scene at 10.30am on Tuesday.

A section of Mearns Road was closed during the incident.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "There were no injuries and nobody had to be rescued."
